WE RISE is a documentary musical theatre project that uses the testimony, chants, and songs of people with first-hand experience of the 2025/2026 ICE/CBP/DHS “Operation Metro Surge” in Mni Sóta Makoce (Minneapolis, Minnesota). The script incorporates first-hand testimonies about harm and violence people experienced and witnessed in encounters with ICE/CBP; strategies and experiences of protest, struggle, and righteous resistance to federal law enforcement; as well as efforts to provide and sustain mutual aid and other support for those most impacted by the “Operation.”  The project features a script, a report on the initial writing and staging of the script, dramaturgical material on the history of resistance in what became known as Minneapolis, and a how-to manual supporting local staged readings and other theatrical adaptations of the script for activist use protected by the 1st Amendment to the Constitution of the United States.
